Oscar Piastri congratulates Australian Cricket Team for ‘incredible knocks’ and proposes challenge to Karun Chandhok
Oscar Piastri shot a challenge at former racer Karun Chandhok after his home country Australia trumped India at the ODI Cricket World Cup finale.
An incredible showdown between Australia and India took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat for the 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup finale. The Aussies, who had lost a few matches in the beginning and found their traction later on found themselves pitted against the host country India who had not lost a single match in the entire season. But as almost all the pundits hoped for a victory for the Indian men in blue, Australian team captain Pat Cummins vowed to silence the opposition. And F1 racer Oscar Piastri showed his support for the Aussies in his classic way.
Piastri took to his X account prior to the finale and sent a friendly warning to Karun Chandhok. The former F1 racer is an Indian by birth and it is obvious that Karun and Oscar have had their arguments over whose home country should reign at the World Cup finale. While Piastri’s homeland Australia held a record-setting five ICC ODI Championships before 2023, India has already seen two victories in 1983 and 2011. Despite the numbers, Indians were the favorites to win in Ahmedabad this time around simply because they had already beaten Australia in the group league stage.
But defying all odds, the Australian squad in their bright yellow jerseys reigned supreme in front of the Indian crowd of over 1,000,000 people. A happy Oscar Piastri congratulated his home team by taking to Instagram and sharing message for them, especially the batters Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne. And then he went to X and threw a challenge at Karun Chandhok.

Oscar Piastri’s outing at Las Vegas GP was far more impressive than expected
In his very first year as a McLaren driver, the prodigal Oscar Piastri has shown his worth already. The 22-year-old has clinched 2 podium finishes for himself and has surpassed several heavyweight opponents like Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon in the rankings with 89 points to his name. Piastri had even won the Sprint Race in Qatar. But going into the Las Vegas GP, expectations from both McLarens were an an all time low because of their Quali performance.
Both Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri got out of Qualifying in Vegas in Q1 itself. Norris landed himself a P16 start while Piastri was supposed to start from P19 ahead of Tsunoda. During the Main Race, Norris had an on-track incident in lap 4 and had to retire with a DNF. But Piastri managed to keep at it as he went from 19th on the starting grid to 10th by the end of it. The youngster walked away with an impressive two points at a race where McLaren were clearly not the favorites.
With only one race left for this 2023 season, it remains to be seen how Piastri approached the Abu Dhabi GP. This will mark the end of his career-first year in the pinnacle of motorsports. His team boss Zak Brown has already said he sees a World Champion in Piastri. It remains to be seen if Brown’s vision does come true and Piastri is able to lift the trophy for the papaya army any time in the future.
