Oscar Piastri was the Rookie of the Year in 2023. The Australian driver made his highly-anticipated debut with McLaren after a contract saga with Alpine. The 22-year-old impressed the entire paddock with some great results for the Woking-based team. Now, Piastri has given some advice to drivers who aspire to race in Formula 1.

The 22-year-old emphasized that one should never give up no matter the challenges they face along the way. Piastri claimed that such hurdles in turn improve a driver as they learn from such lessons. Moreover, the McLaren driver reckoned that an F1 hopeful should believe in themselves which has allowed them to make it so far in the first place.

Never give up. There are always hurdles and challenges along the way, but they can shape you and make you better. You must always maintain that inner belief in yourself that has got you to where you are.

Additionally, Oscar Piastri highlighted the importance of enjoying racing. The world of motorsport could be difficult for drivers. However, one must not forget to cherish their time in junior categories as they go up the racing ladder and ultimately reach the pinnacle of motorsport.

Another thing is to enjoy it. Motorsport is obviously a tough business at times, but never lose that passion that made you pursue it.

Piastri had faced the challenge of making it to F1 from Australia, a country that doesn’t have the same level of competition as Europe. As such, the 22-year-old had to move to the UK like his fellow countryman Daniel Ricciardo to keep his F1 dream alive.

Oscar Piastri has solidified his place in F1

The Australian driver exceeded expectations in his rookie F1 season. The former F2 champion matched the pace of teammate Lando Norris at the Woking-based team. Moreover, Oscar Piastri went on to win the Sprint race at the Qatar GP for McLaren.

The 22-year-old was given a long-term contract with the British team for his impressive debut season. Certainly, Oscar Piastri would’ve been on the radar for rival teams, and as such McLaren decided to secure the Australian driver for the long term. Although, Piastri will face stiff competition from Lando Norris in the upcoming season.

Oscar Piastri would be looking to outperform his more experienced teammate at McLaren next season. The 22-year-old has showcased his talent with some impressive finishes for the team. As such, fans would be looking forward to seeing how things pan out for the Australian driver in 2024.
