What rubbed more salt into the wounds of Sebastian Vettel was the fact that Hamilton started the race from P14 and was still able to secure maximum points.

During the turbo hybrid era, Mercedes was the team to beat as since 2014, they were dominating the Championship, however, in 2018 Ferrari came up with a package that was able to challenge the Silver Arrows, but because of bad luck, the Maranello-based teams charge ran out of steam by the closing stages on the season.

Sebastian was Ferrari’s best bet in 2018 but despite his tireless efforts, was able to finish the season in second place with 320 points to his name during which he secured five Grand Prix wins. Mercedes, on the other hand, once again won both Championships and Hamilton finished his season off with a massive haul of 420 points.

The season could have turned out with a different story had Vettel not crashed in front of his home fans in Hockenheim. The German Grand Prix was the 11th round of a 21-race season and from that point onwards, Vettel just wasn’t able to make a strong enough comeback to challenge Hamilton.
