Fernando Alonso, the former 2-time F1 world champion, was simply flying during the 2023 season of the sport. He was on song from the get-go and produced several sensational performances. While the Spaniard had quite a few strong moments, the former F1 driver, Pedro De Le Rosa has named Alonso’s Sao Paulo triumph as Aston Martin’s best moment.
During the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, Fernando Alonso was in an intense battle with Red Bull’s Sergio Perez for third place in the race. The duo had quite a few back-and-forth tussles during the closing stages, and Alonso was just able to clinch the third position by the barest of margins.
It was an extremely entertaining battle, and Pedro De Le Rosa views it as Aston Martin’s best 2023 moment. While talking about it, he said, as reported by Soymotor;
For me the highlight was Sao Paulo because of what it meant. Not because the position was better We didn't fight for victory, but in Monaco we did. It was a bit because of where we came from and, above all, because it was at the end of the season. And because in this sport people end up remembering how it ends and not how it begins.
Looking at the reaction of the 52-year-old veteran of the pinnacle of motor racing, it is quite safe to assume that the whole Aston Martin F1 team was immensely pleased with how the car and especially, Fernando Alonso was able to perform during the challenging 71-lap Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Fernando Alonso is still as fast as ever in F1
While Pedro De Le Rosa has deemed the Sao Paulo GP as Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin’s best moment of 2023, it would not have been possible had the former lost any of his speed because of his aging body. Despite being, 42-years-old, he is still able to put an F1 car through the absolute wringer.
Moreover, this is one of the main reasons why Alonso is continuing at the pinnacle of motor racing. He is willing to put his body through the extreme stresses of F1 to have one last go at the coveted F1 world championship and take his titles tally to a commendable three.
