Liam Lawson has impressed the entire F1 paddock in recent weeks. The Kiwi driver subbed in for an injured Daniel Ricciardo from the Dutch GP onwards. The 21-year-old has delivered some decent performances at AlphaTauri. However, Lawson will not be given a full-time drive for 2024. Now, former Red Bull driver Pierre Gasly has sympathized with the New Zealander.
Gasly had to spend some time on the sidelines as a Red Bull junior before making his debut mid-season in 2017. As such, the Frenchman understands the current position of Liam Lawson. The Alpine drive reckoned that it would be a tough time for Lawson. He said, as reported by Motorsport.com, “I know how it feels. It can be very difficult if you have to be so competitive as a driver, which must also be done in Formula 1. You have the will, the desire, and the motivation to go out”
Pierre Gasly claimed that Liam Lawson had shown he was ready to race in F1 full-time. As such, the Frenchman believed it was time for the 21-year-old to get a shot at the pinnacle of motorsport. However, Gasly admitted that patience would be key for the New Zealander. Gasly stated, “It definitely feels like he’s ready to take that step to drive a full season. I personally think he deserves it, but he has to be patient.”

Liam Lawson to get a full-time F1 seat in 2025?
Rumors have surfaced that Lawson’s new contract with Red Bull ensures a full-time drive for the 21-year-old in 2025. However, it is unclear if the seat would be for Milton Keynes or sister squad AlphaTauri. Pierre Gasly believed that Liam Lawson would definitely secure a seat for the 2025 season. He continued, “I am convinced that we will see him in 2025.”
The Kiwi driver must stay determined for his ambitions to race in F1. For now, Lawson must continue delivering solid results for AlphaTauri and battle head-to-head with teammate Yuki Tsunoda. Although, Daniel Ricciardo will return to the Faenza-based team once he recovers. As such, Lawson cannot afford a single bad weekend.

The 21-year-old has shown promise through his drivers this season so far. Moreover, Liam Lawson has proven to be a solid contender in the Japanese Super Formula Championship. As such, it might only be a matter of time before Red Bull decides to give him the bump up to a full-time F1 seat. Till then, fans would be looking forward to seeing how Lawson performs for the remainder of his sub duties.
