Hamilton recently signed a contract extension with Mercedes and is set to remain in Formula 1 at 40 years of age. Pierre Gasly has claimed the trailblazing years of Hamilton have led to a change in the sport making it easier for drivers to express themselves.

The 8-time World Championship has often invited scrutiny from the FIA officials over him raising issues around racism or society, or even dressing in his own unique style. Gasly feels Hamilton’s rebellious ways have made it easier for the younger driver’s to step onto the Formula 1 world and just ‘be themselves’. Gasly says“I think Lewis opened a lot of doors for all of us and it’s important to say, without him, it would be different these days,” “Actually I get on very well with Lewis, I often thank him for sticking to his values and to himself all these years because now it’s definitely made the path smoother for us young drivers.”

Hamilton was always known to champion his views even after being criticised and even threatened by the FIA. Gasly’s comments do hold weight as it cannot be discounted that with becoming one of the most iconic personalities in the history of our sport, Lewis Hamilton did change Formula 1.

Lewis Hamilton in an interview with Sky Italy has brought up the familiar debate about Verstappen’s lack of formidable competition from his teammates. At 25, The Red Bull driver has become a 2-time World Champion is on-course towards his third triumph. A constant advance that the Hamilton fans have over the Dutchman’s is the fierce competition that the Brit faced.

Hamilton said in the interview, “You know when I qualified half a second, six-tenths ahead of Valtteri, they didn’t say the same thing as they say today when Max qualifies six-tenths ahead of Perez… Valtteri, and actually all my team-mates, have been stronger than the team-mates that Max has had. These guys have all been very consistent, and Max has not raced against anyone like that,”

Lewis’s gallery of rogues can easily stand tall against even The Dark Knight’s, the roster includes, an astonishing three different World Champions! With Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Nico Rosberg, George Russell, and Valterri Bottas rank the highest. When compared to Verstappen’s teammates, with the likes of Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, Sergio Perez, and Daniel Ricciardo, Hamilton’s teammates seem a league above.
