The Sustainability Accreditation Programme is a step by the FIA towards greener future

The FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation programme is a scheme developed by the FIA to recognize and reward motorsport venues for their commitment to sustainability and environmentally responsible practices. The programme is designed to encourage race circuits and motorsport facilities to adopt environmentally sustainable practices, reduce their carbon footprint and promote sustainable development.

The accreditation system is based on a 3-star rating, with the highest rating of 3 stars indicating the highest level of environmental sustainability and responsible practices, along with augmenting environmental performance. To achieve accreditation, motorsport venues must meet a set of criteria that assesses their environmental performance in several key areas, including energy efficiency, waste management, water usage, and sustainable mobility.

Alpine are now powered by 100% renewable energy in the UK, with 80% of lights replaced by LEDs, saving energy and reporting carbon emissions, along with minimizing travel beyond the race calendar, rendering them eligible for their promotion from their previously held Two-Star accreditation.

In addition to the Three-Star programme, the FIA has also launched other initiatives to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility in motorsport, such as the FIA Environmental Accreditation for Championships and the FIA Smart Cities initiative. These initiatives demonstrate the FIA’s commitment to sustainability and the environment and its role as a leader in promoting sustainable development in the motorsport industry.
