Ferrari has had a disappointing two years in 2022 and 2023, after hopes of winning championships after the opening few races of 2022. The F1-75 showed pace, winning in Bahrain and Australia, but Charles Leclerc‘s team had a series of issues throughout the year that saw them lose the championship.

In 2023, pre-season tests again raised hopes for the Scuderia, who have not won a championship since 2008. However, the 2023 season was a huge disappointment for the team other than Carlos Sainz‘s Singapore GP win. Reliability issues, bad strategy calls, and excessive tire degradation saw Ferrari unable to compete against the dominant Red Bull. Former F1 driver Timo Glock said Ferrari still has the speed to compete, but they need to improve their consistency and improvement on all levels.

That means Ferrari remains inconsistent, because of some circuits, they do have the speed to really compete. Ferrari needs to raise the level and understand how they can improve the car towards next year on every level.
Timo Glock said, as reported by racingnews365.com

Ferrari has achieved multiple poles and a win this year, but they are still battling against Mercedes for second in the Constructors’ Championship right now. The battle could probably see Ferrari pass Mercedes for the runner-up spot after huge issues were noticed at the Mercedes camp in the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Ferrari sporting director clarifies main target for 2026 car

The 2026 aerodynamic and technical regulations will overhaul Formula One, with cars projected to be completely different from the current era. A large issue for the drivers about the regulations is the weight of the cars, which has grown a lot since the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era.

This increased weight is not just the aerodynamic components of the car, but a huge chunk of it is the safety components that have been added throughout the past decade. Ferrari Sporting Director Diego Ioverno highlighted that reducing the weight of these cars should not come at the cost of components required for the safety of a driver.

I think drivers, all in all, would like to have a smaller car because they think, rightly so, that would be more fun to drive, possibly quicker, lighter, as it was in old times. We have to remember that our main target is always the safety of drivers.
Diego Ioverno said, as reported by racingnews365.com

Many incidents have contributed to increased safety regulations, including Romain Grosjean’s fireball crash in 2020, and Anthoine Hubert’s tragic passing in 2019. Arguably, the most impactful was one of the biggest shocks to Grand Prix racing, which would be instrumental in introducing the halo, Jules Bianchi’s fatal accident in Suzuka in 2014.
