Qatar GP not considered as replacement for Russian GP: Report
Qatar GP
The F1 calendar is ever-expanding, with as many as 23 races planned for the 2022 F1 season. However, the scheduling has been thrown for a toss, as the Russian GP has been cancelled owing to global tensions. Several venues are in contention to replace the Russian GP, and we expect an announcement from the authorities in the coming month.
One race which was a consideration is the Qatar GP, which is now reportedly off the charts. Instead, FIA is now considering having two races in Singapore this season. The Qatar GP was held last year, under the lights, in the final part of the season. Lewis Hamilton came out on top, with Max Verstappen coming in second to keep the title race well and truly alive.
Singapore GP returns to the F1 Calendar
Singapore GP will make a comeback to the F1 calendar this year. The Marina Bay Circuit has a special place on the F1 calendar, given that it is the first street circuit in Asia. Moreover, it will be one among the few night races on the calendar.
The Singapore GP was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, owing to the pandemic situation. However, the race has now been given the green light to be a part of the schedule in 2022. It will be held from September 30-October 1, 2022. The FIA certainly have a big decision to make in terms of deciding the replacement for the Russian GP.
Speaking in terms of the current F1 season, we are already four races into the calendar. Ferrari driver, Charles Leclerc has been leading the championship chart, with a 27-point lead over second placed, Max Verstappen. The latter claimed a comfortable win in Imola, however, two DNF’s in Bahrain and Australia has played a huge role in terms of the championship standings. Next up, we head to Miami GP, which will host it’s first ever race in May.
