Real Madrid star Thibaut Courtois has been passionate about racing and has often expressed his love for motorsports. Having already made his mark in the football world, the Belgian goalkeeper is set to score in motorsports. Courtois has created a Formula 4 team. This open-wheel racing car category for junior drivers was created by the administrative body for motorsports, the Federation International de l’Automobile, well-known as the FIA.

Thibaut Courtois has joined hands with the former Formula 1 driver and current Formula E driver Roberto Merhi to create an F4 team for the 2024 season. Merhi ran 13 F1 races in 2015 and now competes for Mahindra Racing in Formula E. They hope that it will be a fruitful partnership. According to Motorsport.com, the team will be called “TC Racing.” There is no doubt it is named after the Real Madrid goalkeeper.

However, this is not Courtois’ first interaction with the motorsport world, as he previously participated in eSports races during the pandemic. In 2020, Thibaut Courtois and current Williams Racing F1 team driver Alex Albon raced alongside each other in a virtual GP. The 31-year-old had already spent time on sim racing and was familiar with it. Courtois and Albon teamed up for the Red Bull Esports family.

Courtois was excited about his virtual race back then, and fast forward to 2023, and he is now set to enter motorsports in the real world. He has participated in the F1 officers, where he secured the fastest lap against professional racing drivers. In addition, the Real Madrid goalkeeper has a simulator in his house and spends time racing in the virtual world.

Thibaut Courtois has attended several Formula 1 races. He was spotted in Monte Carlo, Spa-Francorchamps, and Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He even showed up at the Monaco GP this season. However, there was an awkward interaction between him and Martin Brundle. It was when the F1 pundit Brundle mistook the Belgian for a Spaniard during the grid walk. In all seriousness, there is no doubt that Courtois would have wanted to be a racing driver if not a footballer.

However, he can be satisfied as the head of an F4 team. Teams like MP Motorsport Dutch started from scratch and are now highly competitive. Just like them, Courtois’ new team could advance in the series and compete in different championships in the future. After all, Thibaut Courtois can seek advice from his F1 friends, like Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. He has even crossed paths with McLaren driver Lando Norris and Mercedes driver George Russell.
