The Red Bull F1 team has got a plethora of rumors surrounding them at the moment. From Sergio Perez’s potential departure to Fernando Alonso’s potential arrival, the F1 rumor mill has been extremely active with all kinds of rumors. But one rumor that has pretty much come out of the blue is the Sergio Perez-Fernando Alonso swap rumor.
Since the Mexican Grand Prix, it has been highly debated that there is a chance that Alonso and Perez could swap their respective Aston Martin and Red Bull seat for the 2024 F1 season. This rumor has turned the world of F1 upside-down, and to bring some stability back, Red Bull has acted.
It has been reported by Motorsports’ sister publication, Motorsport.com-Total, that one of Red Bull’s senior figures has interacted with them and admitted that Sergio Perez is going to continue at Red Bull for the 2024 Formula 1 season. Considering this, it seems probable that the Alonso-Perez swap rumors have no credibility.
With the revelation mentioned above, it is pretty clear that the Austrian outfit is in no mood to drop any bombs on the F1 paddock in the near future. Since Mexico, Daniel Ricciardo’s name has also been making the rounds around a Red Bull seat for next year, but now it does not seem a real possibility.
Red Bull has plenty of options for 2025
Despite Sergio Perez’s horrendous 2023 struggles, Christian Horner and Co. are willing to stick with him, at least for next year. At the end of the 2024 campaign of the pinnacle of motor racing, Perez’s contract with the Milton-Keynes-based team will end, and after that, the Red Bull seat could go to anyone.
While Red Bull is willing to continue with their Mexican driver for next year, they have plenty of options available for the 2025 season of the sport. The lights of Daniel Ricciardo, Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, and even a few others will be vying for the seat alongside Max Verstappen.
However, while it seems unlikely that Perez will continue at Red Bull after the end of 2024, one has to keep in mind the unpredictability level of the sport. He might be able to put in a stellar season next year that may tempt Christian Horner to continue with him for the next few years.
