Sergio Perez has failed to live up to expectations in the first half of the 2023 F1 season. The Mexican driver currently trails teammate Max Verstappen by 125 points. As such, it was crucial for the 33-year-old to get closer to the two-time world champion at the Dutch GP. Unfortunately, it appears that Perez is still far behind Verstappen regarding one-lap pace.

Verstappen continued his dominant run in Formula 1 as he claimed pole position at his home race. However, Sergio Perez had a hard time in Qualifying as the Mexican driver could only manage P7 by the end of the session. The 33-year-old’s fastest Q3 lap time was 1.3 seconds slower than his teammate’s. Certainly not ideal for the Red Bull driver.

Moreover, Sergio Perez was out-qualified by Williams driver Alex Albon, who did a stellar lap to put his car on P4 for Sunday’s race. Red Bull would not be happy with this result. The Mexican driver will have a lot of work to do in the main race to get maximum points after such a dismal performance in Qualifying at Zandvoort.

Fans on Twitter were quick to react to Perez’s disappointing result. One user was fed up with the Mexican driver and did not bother to say much. The user wrote, “It’s just embarrassing atp not much more to say really.” At the same time, another fan reckoned that Sergio Perez would be replaced by Daniel Ricciardo soon and mentioned the Australian’s recent injury. The fan replied, “He’s going to lose his seat to someone with a broken wrist.”

One fan asked Red Bull to finally pull the plug on the Mexican driver after consistently failing to deliver expected results. The fan commented, “DROP HIM MID SEASON.” Similarly, another user mentioned that the Milton Keynes-based team has fired drivers for far less than Perez’s slump. The user stated, “Sack him, they literally let Alex and Pierre go for less than this.”

Thus, Sergio Perez has once again failed to match Max Verstappen. The Mexican driver has not managed to outqualify his teammate for the majority of the season so far. Now, Perez will have added pressure to perform at the Dutch GP as he starts P7 with unarguably the fastest car on the grid. Fans would hope that the 33-year-old can get some decent points on Sunday.
