Helmut Marko, the Red Bull team adviser, has made it known that the Red Bull group is planning to move its sister team away from Italy. This has come amidst the downward spiral that the Faenza-based team has been on recently in Formula 1. After nine rounds in the ongoing campaign, AlphaTauri has only managed 2 points and is plumb last.
Helmut Marko is well aware of the problems that the team is facing. He feels it is important that some actions are taken to keep AlphaTauri at a competitive level at the pinnacle of motor racing. Yuki Tsunoda has emerged as the leader of the team with his recent performances, but he can only extract performance from their current car up to a certain extent.
While shedding light on the AlphaTauri F1 team, Marko told racingnews365.com, “We hope that AlphaTauri will improve this year and for the future, we have a broader partnership with Red Bull planned. All of this is within the regulations, of course, but the aim is to start using our resources more efficiently. Certain parts of the team will move to Great Britain.”
The 80-year-old has clarified that he wants the Red Bull sister team to be as competitive as possible this year. Moreover, he has also revealed that in the upcoming months, certain operations of the AlphaTauri team will be moving to Great Britain to keep the team competitive in Formula 1.
AlphaTauri needs to perform consistently in the upcoming F1 races
While Helmut Marko has oozed positivity regarding AlphaTauri, the road ahead for the Franz Tost-led team is not easy, as far as the 2023 F1 season is concerned. As mentioned earlier, the team has so far managed only two points and is at the bottom of the Constructor’s standings. The team ahead of them is the Wantage-based Williams F1 team.
Alex Albon had an extremely strong outing in his FW45 at the Canadian GP, and thus, on the back of that performance, Williams has managed to leapfrog Yuki Tsunoda and Co. in the standings. The only good thing for AlphaTauri is that there are still several races left in the season for them to make a comeback.
However, to start closing the gap with the teams ahead of them, Tsunoda and De Vries would have to start performing consistently. Otherwise, they would be left with an extremely bitter pill to swallow, seeing all their rival teams making progress in the 2023 Formula 1 season.
