The Miami Grand Prix qualifying session did not fail to deliver excitement, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. The central spectacle was pole-favorite Max Verstappen being forced to start from ninth on the grid. His teammate Sergio Perez secured the pole position, courtesy of a red flag in the closing minutes of the session.
Verstappen topped the time charts in Q1 and Q2. He looked set to take pole position at the expense of his teammate Perez, who had been enduring a torrid weekend on track. The new title challenger Perez, was miles off of his teammate’s pace in every session this weekend, a theme which recurred during qualifying. This came as a surprise, given Perez’s propensity for success at street circuits.
The Dutch Lion was in a different league to the Mexican all weekend, and their lap times reflected it. The telemetry revealed that Verstappen was gaining over half a second to his teammate Perez primarily on the straights. This extent of prowess is a familiar sight from Verstappen. He will undoubtedly cut through the pack and take the fight to Perez in the front come race day.
Here is how fans reacted to the massive gap between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez
Max Verstappen was observed going 0.52 seconds faster than his teammate Sergio Perez on the straights of Miami alone. This has resulted in the eruption of sabotage claims from fans. However, it seems outlandish that there can be such a staggering deficit on the straights, given that they both drive the same RB19. Take a look at how the fans reacted to this.
Christian Horner and Red Bull have openly declared their intent to allow the drivers to race each other for the title, insisting on no bias. But the fans are interpreting this huge gap in speed as sabotage from Red Bull, in favor of Verstappen.
The Dutchman is Red Bull‘s ‘golden boy’ and their number one driver for the last four years. Nonetheless, he has a massive task ahead of him on race day, and watching him get his elbows out to cut through the field will be a sight to behold.
