The Milton-Keynes outfit of Red Bull had a massively dominant run in this season as the team won 21 out of the 22 races. The dominant RB-19 was flawless in the majority of the sectors. However, Pierre Wache, the technical director revealed a few weak points of the massively dominant RB19.
Wache insisted on the fact that the car failed to reach its maximum potential. He talked about how Max Verstappen juiced out every ounce from the vehicle meanwhile Sergio Perez failed to replicate the same performance as Verstappen. This was a ‘failure’ in Pierre Wache’s book as he expected both the drivers to drive the dominant RB19 in the same form and score a perfect season in 2023.
A fast car is a car that allows the driver to perform to the maximum. In that respect, we failed because only one driver, Max in this case, could handle it well. That is a talent of Max's.
The French additionally talked about how Verstappen was able to use the car well throughout the season under different difficult conditions. Meanwhile, Wache was not hesitant in accepting how the team failed in Checo’s needs from the car. As per Wache, Perez could’ve also used the RB19 to the same potential if Red Bull had more understanding of Perez’s needs from the car.
He [Max Verstappen] was able to use the car well throughout the season and in different conditions. On the other hand, we, in turn, may not have understood Checo well in terms of what he needs to be able to get the potential out of the RB19 as well.
How many records were broken in the dominant RB19?
For the majority of the season, Max Verstappen carried the victory boat for Red Bull. He broke multiple records in the process of dominating the grid in the entire season. However, as highlighted by Wache, Perez was unable to score as impressively as Verstappen and break such astonishing records.
Verstappen not only broke the record for the most wins in the season [19 wins] but he also held an astonishing winning rate of 86%. Additionally, Verstappen also led a whopping 1003 laps in the season and shattered that record as well. The Dutchman was also the only driver to win 3 races in the same country.
Red Bull was successful in creating a highly-capable machinery for this season as mentioned by Wache. With Adrian Newey still as the chief designer, the team aims at creating a similar but more capable car for the following season and hence continue the winning streak for the Milton-Keynes outfit.
