‘Red Bull’s speed won’t be a concern at Monza’: Ferrari prepares to bounce back after a humbling defeat at the Belgian GP

Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto

Ferrari were humbled after a very poor performance at the Belgian GP. Red Bull dominated the track and Ferrari looked nowhere near the pace for the winning contention. Red Bull finished their fourth one-two finish of the season increasing the grip on the title with more 8 races to go. Ferrari needs to bring some changes to compare to the dominant straight-line pace of Red Bull.

Max Verstappen won the Belgian GP with a gap of 26 seconds to Carlos Sainz in third. Max, however, started his race from the fourteenth position after serving a Grid penalty for his new components of the engine. Charles Leclerc started just behind Max but only managed a P5 at the Belgian GP. Ferrari lacked so much pace they were no competition for Mercedes as well, and this could be blamed on the team for choosing the wrong package to play the GP.

Monza is another high-speed track but is also the home for the Italian team. “In view of Monza, it is not, because we have as well a lighter wing to run here in Spa, but we didn’t use it because we believe it was not the right choice.” Mattia Binotto explained in a conversation with Motorsport.

Ferrari will run a low-drag package in the high-speed straights of Monza. This could benefit the Italian team by being lighter than their rivals. But Red Bull could still manage to hit Ferrari after their pace shown at the Belgian GP. Mattia Binotto and his team surely understand this and will try their best to gain much from the championship leaders.

“So for Monza, certainly we will run a different type of wing, lower drag, so the speed itself will not be the concern. But once again, for the next races, I think it’s more the overall performance of the Red Bull shown today that is a concern.” said Binotto.

Ferrari are out of the championship logical but are still in search of some luck to stay in the title contention with a 118 points gap. Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc have a gap of 98 points now with Leclerc third in the championship.
