The Mexican minister of defence, as he’s lovingly referred to by his fans, finished P4 in a Dutch GP laden with ample rain, safety cars, and even a red flag. P4, however, isn’t what Red Bull are after as Sergio Perez’s results of late have been termed a ‘let-down’ in context of the team he’s racing for. The Red Bull driver addressed these short-comings recently.

Perez mentioned car upgrades as being the reason him taking longer to achieve the desired pace. He said in a recent media interaction, “I think every driver through their careers or through each season, you get some upgrades to the car that adapt easier to your driving style than others. Sometimes you will put a part in it and you will straight away go faster with it. Sometimes you will have to adapt to it”.

As speculations clamour of certain executives being disappointed at Perez’s performance, the Mexican sets eyes on achieving better results. Maybe he will even clinch a few Grand Prix wins from the grab of his immaculate teammate. But that remains a job easier said than done.

The Dutchman is currently en route an extraordinary season, winning his 11th race of the season while equalling Sebastian Vettel’s record of 9 consecutive wins. Amidst Verstappen’s utter dominance in Formula 1 and even over his own teammate. Some have speculated and commented upon Red Bull making Verstappen a car tailored to his own preferences. The World Champion responds.

Verstappen insists that he never demands Red Bull to make changes according to his preference. While talking to Motorsports.com, the driver said,“I just drive the car I get to the fastest way possible. I’m not there to tell the guys to give me more front end, because that’s how I like it.”

The two time world champion, only 25 years old, has pointed to his adapting skills, as has his Mexican teammate to highlight their results. We’ll see how the Red Bull saga proceeds as Verstappen and Perez line up at Monza this weekend.
