The most fascinating thing about this whole fiasco is the fact that last year, Baku extended its F1 deal until the 2024 season of the sport.

However, despite a deal until 2024, rumors have been swirling about the Azerbaijan GP being in contact with F1 regarding a new deal, that would extend its stay by 10 years.

Azerbaijan reportedly pays a mammoth sum of around US$55 million to F1 for hosting a Grand Prix and it is believed to be one of the highest on the calendar.

As per the latest reports, it is a common belief that Azerbaijan has been selected as one of the venues to host a Sprint race alongside Austria, Belgium, Qatar, Brazil, and Austin.

However, Saudi Arabia is also expected to be in the running for hosting a Sprint race, but the roadblock at the moment is the fees that F1 is charging.

If somehow a deal goes through, it is believed that Saudi Arabia would most likely replace Qatar as one of the venues.

The 2022 F1 calendar is going to be the longest one in the history of the sport, and it would be fascinating to see how the other venues would react if Azerbaijan’s 10-year deal goes through.
