Report: Ferrari will not compromise on performance despite F1-75’s reliability concerns

Ferrari F1-75 in Spain

Ferrari this year, has been the most plagued team with reliability issues, and F1 analyst, Michael Schmidt believes that the Maranello-based team is not going to compromise on performance and is fully prepared to take on the risks that are associated with their car this season.

After 11 rounds, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have had two DNFs each due to engine failures. The Monegasque’s turbo issues came to light in Baku and Spain whereas the smooth operator’s progress came to a halt in Azerbaijan and Austria where he was running in podium finish places.

The Spaniard’s latest DNF in Austria means, at Paul Ricard, he is expected to take a penalty, moreover, the Italian team’s customers have also been suffering from reliability concerns this season.

Haas and Alfa Romeo both have had their share of engine-related problems this season and it is believed that Ferrari is working on a fix that is not completely ready yet and will only be available by the time of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Schmidt while talking about the bold stance of Ferrari has said, “Absolutely not, they have to drive with full power. They have to take full risk. I think they are doing a similar strategy to what Mercedes did last year.”

Mercedes last year was the team that was the worst hit with reliability issues and because of the recurring problems their former driver Valtteri Bottas had to take six internal combustion engines.

This year, the most common belief in the paddock is that Ferrari has got the most powerful engine and Toto Wolff has said that it gives them “10kw up” on the chasing pack.

“At the moment it doesn’t look like Ferrari has a solution to the engine problems,” Schmidt said. “Even if they have one, it will take time to build it into the engines.

The current engines in the pool [both drivers] obviously still have the thing that causes the issues.”

“Until the next engines come in the PU pool, it’s going to take until Spa for sure, and that would also mean another penalty for Leclerc.”

I believe Sainz will drive with a new PU in Paul Ricard.”

After looking at what the F1 analyst has said, it seems the team has got penalties coming the way of both their drivers, and given the delicate situation in both the Championships, it is going to be interesting to see how they are going to manage the upcoming challenge that is headed their way.

Ferrari is currently second with 303 points in the Constructors Championship and has got 170 in the Drivers Championship with Leclerc. The gap to Red Bull is not too big and if the team is somehow able to keep their car together for the next few races, then there are very good chances that they can get close to or even ahead of the mighty Red Bull team.

Can Ferrari get ahead of Red Bull in the Championships before the star of the summer break?
