Report: Haas renews contract with Kevin Magnussen for 2023

Kevin Magnussen

Kevin Magnussen‘s entire course of career was changed overnight when he received a call from his former eam executives summoning him back to Haas after the high-profile exit of Nikita Mazepin from the American team amidst the Russia-Ukraine conflict. And then, Magnussen kicked off the 2022 season of Formula 1 with a fantastic performance in Bahrain where he finished in the P5 spot, ahead of stalwarts like Sergio Perez in his mighty Red Bull.

As Kevin Magnussen has managed to impress his bosses at Haas with his performance in the eleven races that have been held in this year so far, Haas has confirmed that he is staying in the team for 2023 as well, although his teammate Mick Schumacher’s seat has not yet been confirmed yet.

Kevin Magnussen is optimistic for the upcoming Baku weekend.

29-year-old racer Kevin Magnussen was ousted from Formula 1 after Haas decided to terminated their contracts with Magnussen and his then-teammate Romain Grosjean at the end of 2020. Following that, Magnussen entered into talks with IndyCar, but after Haas summoned him to fill in for Nikita Mazepin after the Russian racer was let go of by the team, he returned to Haas.

Speaking of Kevin Magnussen’s performance so far in Haas, their team principal Guenther Steiner joked, “Having Kevin here, there is no negative – except having Kevin here.

He then said, “Yes, Kevin has a multi-year contract. We are making progress and have shown what we can do and logically we need the best possible drivers in our cars in order to finish in the points to get to the top.”
