Sebastian Vettel admits to feeling his retirement becoming ‘more real’ as the end of the season approaches

Sebastian Vettel is coming to an end of a very glorious career with just three races to go. He has had an amazing career and a 2022 season with ups and downs all along. Vettel’s season started off with him being kept under supervision after being positive for Covid-19, missing the first two races, he joined back in Australia.

The season started off with him completely dashing the car and ruining his very first race. The first half of the season was pretty much similar with him settling with the car and improving his poor form. He did manage to score a few points in the ‘tractor’ that Aston Martin provided him. The ‘deciding factor’ for the four-time world champion regarding retirement was apparently his collision back in Austria.

After the Japanese Grand Prix, Vettel was understandably emotional – Suzuka is his favourite track. He didn’t hide his emotion admitting that he will miss the adrenaline: “At Suzuka, I was a bit sad after qualifying and Sunday was a little bit up and down and mixed emotions because the race was so different. It’s a special place and I will miss it. It is getting a little bit more real,” said Vettel according to Motorsport.com.

Back in 2007, Vettel took out a BMW Sauber for a drive, his first time in Formula 1, in Indianapolis. He then got his chance at Toro Rosso, winning his first-ever race at the 2008 Italian Grand Prix. For 2009, he was promoted to Red Bull, where he started an era of domination, winning four straight championships from 2010-2013.

Vettel drove his first race around Indianapolis making the United States a special place for him. Last weekend, Vettel finished a brilliant P8 on track, after even having led the race at one point. It was later upgraded to P7: “Obviously, my first race was in Indy, so it has a special place,” said Vettel.

He even keeps memorabilia from his first ever Formula 1 race in Indianapolis, a one-cent coin; “I kept the one-cent coin that I found on Sunday morning in Indianapolis while I was running, and it’s still with me. It is a special place to me.”

Aston Martin didn’t really allow the 35-year-old to get himself placed on the top of the table, but the performance he has been providing doesn’t seem less. He has scored 38 out of the 51 points Aston Martin has scored in total this season. This also means that they are now just a point behind Alfa Romeo in the battle for P6 in the championship.
