Sebastian Vettel picks Mick Schumacher as ideal candidate for vacant Aston Martin seat

4-time Formula One World Champion Sebastian Vettel has pinpointed a possible successor for him at Aston Martin after announcing his retirement from Formula 1. The Silverstone-based team will have to find a suitable replacement for the driver who has scored the majority of their points this year and gave the Aston Martin venture credibility at the beginning of 2021.
It comes as no surprise that Vettel suggested Schumacher to the team given the closeness between the two drivers. Haas driver Mick Schumacher might use Aston Martin as a safety net if Ferrari decides he is no longer required for their ambitions and drops him from the academy. Vettel’s suggestion may or may not be taken into account by Aston Martin when making their ultimate choice. Despite his recent point-scoring performances, Mick Schumacher has fallen short of teammate Kevin Magnussen’s achievements and is still up for debate for the following season.

“Well, obviously, I spoke to Lawrence yesterday and told him that I’m not going to continue. We did have a very, very brief chat about what might be next. I do have my opinion. I think very highly of Mick. I’m not entirely objective because I’m very close to him, but I do think he’s a great driver and is a learner,” said Vettel. “I don’t know. It’s not my decision. If I’m asked [about the situation], I will give my opinion and not hold back. But in the end, the team will have to make that decision,” mentioned the Aston Martin driver.
Aston Martin must regain the tenacity and effectiveness that made them so reliable in the midfield now that Vettel’s departure is looming. It is still unclear how the situation will change when the prospective possibilities are weighed against one another. Schumacher is only one of many choices Aston Martin may take into account for 2023.
Sebastian Vettel will retire from racing as one of the most accomplished drivers in history. Only Juan Manuel Fangio, Michael Schumacher, and Lewis Hamilton have more world championships than the German driver.
