Red Bull has made some eye-catching changes to their 2024 F1 Challenger. The major highlight of the RB20 is the zeropod concept which was developed and later abandoned by their arch-rivals Mercdes F1 team. The Austrian teams’ Mexican star Sergio Perez has given his opinion on these updates and pointed out that the changes made were brave.
Perez pointed out that the team has introduced a new design for the RB20, compared to RB19 in which Max Verstappen achieved historical milestones. The Mexican argues that it was a brave move by the team considering RB19’s dominance in the 2023 season. Then the 34-year-old asserts that changing the concept of the car showcases how keen the is team to bring the most points to the paddock.
It just shows the hunger that there is in this team. You know, we had such a dominant car last year that you wouldn't imagine us changing the concept as much, and I think it's really brave from Red Bull to do that.Perez said, reported by motorsport.com
The 34-year-old driver who did not have a good season last year is very excited to drive the car in Bahrain for the pre-season testing. He is hoping to have a solid year that would help him extend his stay at Red Bull beyond 2024, as his contract is ending this year.
Can Sergio Perez fight for the championship in 2024?
Sergio Perez did not have a good 2023 season. He was only able to amass a mediocre total of 285 points in comparison to Max Verstappen’s 575. The former struggled throughout the campaign and for this reason, was criticized heavily on certain occasions
The Mexican driver is still one of the favourite drivers on the grid. In a recent year interview when he was asked about whether he could fight for a championship. The 34-year-old said that everyone’s target is to win the championship.
More than ever he understands his position at Red Bull is not the same as Max Verstappen. Despite the team insisting they treat both drivers equally, Verstappen being the superior and consistent talent will get more opportunities. If Perez wants to be in the championship fights, he should work on being consistent while taking the necessary risks.
