If that’s what the journalists want to say and write. Apparently it is just a rumor. For me, I have a contract, everything is clear regardless of where I end up in the season. But, rumors are rumors.
Lewis Hamilton’s challenge for the P2 spot in Driver’s Championship

It's mostly dependent on Checo’s weekends really. But we'll just give it our best shot.
He believes it doesn’t really make a difference in his life if he comes P2 or P3 as long as Mercedes have that P2 in Constructors. He believes his P2 will only be a bonus if the team gets the P2 overall.
Mercedes is currently is currently P2 in the Constructors Standings. Only 22 points ahead of the P3 runners, Ferrari. Hamilton’s consistent performance must be matched by his teammate George Russell to prevent the Scuderia from attacking them. The next round is scheduled in Brazilian GP from 3-5 November.
