Sergio Perez claims he’s ‘keeping an eye’ on how Max Verstappen extracts the most out of Red Bull’s RB20
Sergio Perez has not been able to make the most of his opportunity of driving for a mighty team like Red Bull.

Ever since Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen have been teammates, the latter has always had the upper hand on Perez. The Dutchman most often has been seen maximizing the potential of the car.
Recently, Sergio Perez was asked what he can do to try to close the gap to Max Verstappen. The Mexican spoke about how he is now ‘focusing on himself.’ The number 11 also spoke about how he is keeping a close eye on the three-time World Champion‘s driving style in order to understand how to maximize the performance of the RB20.

Just maximizing myself in all the areas. So I think just focusing on myself, obviously keeping an eye on what he’s doing, how he’s getting the maximum out of the car. At the same time, I think it’s just important to focus on myself and get the maximum out of myself. And if I’m able to do that, I know that I’m always going to be very close.

Perez added how the 26-year-old rarely makes mistakes and how getting close to him requires a lot of self-actualization and hard work from his side. The Mexican has had a pretty solid start to the season but will require a lot more if he wants to close the gap to his dominating teammate.
Sergio Perez claims Max Verstappen is a ‘very complete driver’
During his interview with Racingnews 365, Sergio Perez also spoke about his teammate Max Verstappen‘s strengths. The Mexican shed light on how he thinks the Dutchman is a complete driver and always maximizes the result when it matters.
The number 11 seemed to be in awe of his highly regarded teammate. Perez concluded by saying how Verstappen is brilliant in the race as well as qualifying, consistently performing, without any mistakes.
I think Max is a very complete driver that is very strong in qualifying, very strong in the race. Very rarely has weaknesses or makes mistakes. He’s driving at a very high level, I think when you look back, even in qualifying, the last two qualifying, he’s been the only driver that has been able to maximise his full potential come qualifying.

These compliments by Perez will definitely be music to the ears of Max Verstappen fans all around the world. Seeing the Dutchman’s might, the 34-year-old will also want to maximize his results in order to come close to his teammate and fight for victories. Moreover, one has to keep in mind that Perez’s current deal with the Milton-Keynes-based team is coming to a close at the end of this year.
