Sergio Perez ran a tremendous race at the recently concluded Italian GP and managed a P2 finish. He was on it from the get-go, but amidst his highs at the Monza F1 circuit, Perez has made it known that he might have to look at alternative options despite having a contract at Red Bull that covers the 2024 campaign.
Sergio Perez has had a torrid time behind the wheel of the RB19 this year and has come under scrutiny from the lights of Christian Horner and Helmut Marko. Moreover, he understands that if he is not allowed to contribute as much as he would like at Red Bull, he might have to look at his options for next year.
While shedding light on the same in detail, he said, as reported by Formu1.uno, “I think that now, with the season we’ve had, it’s important in the next races to be in an environment where I feel I can contribute. And if that place in 2024 isn’t here, then we have to look for alternatives. But for now, my main focus is to stay here and win more races.“
“And keep on winning Championships with Red Bull. As you say, I have a contract for next year. So, at some stage next year, we’ll see.” The Mexican starlet has made it clear that his main goal is still to win races and, hopefully, Championships with the Red Bull team, but he has kept his options open in case things don’t pan out as per his expectations.
Sergio Perez has got eight crucial races heading his way in 2023
While Sergio Perez has talked about how he is seeing his future at the pinnacle of motor racing, he has got a big job on his hands during the ongoing 2023 F1 season. Red Bull expects him to finish second in the Drivers Championship, and in case he fails, then the Austrian team’s hierarchy could decide Perez’s future for him.
Helmut Marko and Co. have a well-known reputation for being ruthless in their driver treatment, and if the 34-year-old cannot perform well in the upcoming races, he could be shown the exit door. However, the Mexican is well-experienced in F1; he has come out of tough situations before and can do it again.
The Italian GP was a success for Sergio Perez, but one box that he would desperately be looking to tick going forward is his poor performances during qualifying sessions. For most of the 2023 Formula 1 season, he has not been able to match Max Verstappen’s pace over single-lap runs.
