Sergio Perez has been with the Red Bull for the past three years. The ongoing campaign is the last year of his contract, but satisfied with his performance, the Mexican believes he will be able to extend his current deal.

Last season, despite Sergio Perez being second on the chart, he was far behind his teammate, Max Verstappen, in terms of points. Red Bull recently gave an ultimatum to Perez to prove his place on the team.

The situation is that we're happy - the team and driver, and I believe it's just a matter of time before we sit down and try to get to an agreement to extend my contract, but at the moment, there's not a lot more to say.

Perez wants to make the most of the opportunities this season to lay a strong foundation that will serve him well. His goal is to improve upon last year’s performance and continue to grow throughout the season. Amidst all the speculations regarding his place on the Milton-Keynes-based team, Perez is unfazed and wants to make continuous progress.

Ex-F1 driver believes Sergio Perez will hold back Red Bull

While Sergio Perez is optimistic regarding his future, the former F1 driver, René Arnoux, hasn’t shied away from ruthlessly slamming the former. Arnoux believes that Perez’s struggle will put the dominant Red Bull outfit in serious trouble.

The Frenchman believes that while Verstappen is managing to be at the top of the charts, Perez is lacking the same kind of determination.

It's also true that Red Bull only has one car in front, because Perez is a number two, sometimes three. He often disappears.

Whether the 34-year-old is holding the team back or not, is a tale only time will tell, but given the circumstances, Perez will have to level up if he wishes to keep the Red Bull seat for next year. The Mexican finished fifth at the Australian GP which was a rather disappointing weekend for the team for various reasons. Several people will have their eyes glued on Perez’s exploits in the upcoming races.
