The 2023 Dutch GP was one for the history books, proving to be the most chaotic race of the ongoing season. At one point in the race, Sergio Perez was leading the event, but during his second pit stop, he got undercut by the reigning F1 World Champion, and this has not sat well with him.

Sergio Perez started last weekend’s race from P7 on the grid but, because of the incessant rain, came into the pits on the very first lap to put on a set of intermediate tires. It proved to be a masterstroke by the Milton-Keynes-based team as Perez stormed his way to the first position on lap three by overtaking George Russell.

However, after Max Verstappens pitstop for intermediate tires, he easily overtook Zhou Guanyu and took 10 seconds out of Perez’s lead in the following laps. As the Dutchman was closing up to Perez, he was asked to again come into the pits to put on the soft tires on lap 12 of the race. On the next lap, it was Sergio Perez’s turn to go into the pits, and while exiting, he got undercut by his teammate.

The Red Bull shenanigans have not sat well with the 34-year-old, and while talking about the same, he told racingnews365, “I think in that scenario the team has more information than we do at the time. So it’s something we obviously would review during the meeting, I’m sure there’s a reason behind it.”

Sergio Perez believes he should have at least had a podium finish in Zandvoort

While Sergio Perez is disappointed with how the Dutch Grand Prix win went away from him, there is one other reason that has also taken a big toll on the Mexican’s spirit. He feels, at the least, he should have had a podium at the Zandvoort Circuit, and while shedding light on it, he said, “It was chaos. Our call at the beginning turned out to be not so great in the end.

It’s a shame that we ended up losing the podium because I feel like we deserved it.” It is quite clear that Perez is distraught with how his first race after the summer break panned out for him. He ardently believes that had the Red Bull pit wall made adept and quick decisions; he could have returned with a much greater reward than P4.

With the 2023 Dutch GP done and dusted, the attention is now quickly going to shift to the upcoming weekend’s race at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza F1 Circuit. Sergio Perez has proved second best to his teammate for most of the ongoing season, and considering this, he would have a point to prove at Monza.
