Sergio Perez, the Red Bull driver, was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons during the 2023 F1 season. He had a very up-and-down campaign but with two races done and dusted this year, he has managed two solid second places finishes.

The Australian GP weekend is just around the corner and Sergio Perez has taken the time to dwell on why he prefers to stay away from social media. Last year, Perez was brutally bashed by people on the web for his less-than-average performances against Max Verstappen.

The 34-year-old has high expectations riding on him this year as he is trying to secure a contract extension with the Red Bull team. Amidst this, he has emphasized the importance of staying away from social media, especially during a full-fledged F1 season.

I think I'm privileged because I'm a bit older and grew up without social media. It can be really toxic, I'm not a big fan of that, so I always try to stay away from it, making sure that I'm able to come here to do my job, give my everything and prepare as best as I can.

The Mexican driver has a wealth of experience when it comes to F1. He has been racing in the sport for a long time, but since moving to Red Bull, things have proved extremely tough for him. Since 2021, he has regularly been criticized for his performances.

While Sergio Perez has made it known that he prefers to be as far away as possible from social media, he has also very recently, admitted that he is not planning on retiring from F1 anytime soon. At 34, he believes, he still has the desire and speed to prove competitive.

Moreover, he has also talked about the inspiration that gets him up every morning to do his best as a Red Bull F1 driver.

I know that I’m not going to be here forever, but one of my inspirations is that my youngest son gets to see me racing. So (retirement is) not going to be any time soon.
Sergio Perez said in an interview with Athletic

The ongoing 2024 F1 season has proved fruitful for Perez so far. However, keeping in view his track record of going on a lean patch every now and then, he will amass immense attention this year. The Mexican is racing for his career and will be in the limelight during all the remaining 22 races. At the least, Red Bull will expect him to finish in second place behind Verstappen in the driver’s standings.
