Sergio Perez is starting the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix from a disappointing P12 on the grid, and ahead of the race, he has accepted that his Red Bull crew got things wrong during yesterday’s qualifying session. As per the Mexican, the timing of certain things played a major role in his Q2 exit.

With another dismal outing in a qualifying session, he has now been knocked out thrice in consecutive Grand Prix qualifying events. Perez is not happy with how things have been paying out for him, and even his teammate, Max Verstappen, has also taken a shot at his recent performances after the Canadian GP qualifying session.

Sergio Perez was asked to comment on what went wrong during the event, and while discussing the same with motorsport.com, he said, “It was basically half a lap too late and the track position was really poor with the Alfa Romeo ahead. And once the tires were up to temperature on the slick, it started raining harder, so we decided to box. Then, when we went onto the inter, it was all a bit too late.”

That was always the plan – to do one lap and come back in for the slick tyre. We took the decision together and we got it wrong. But it was literally a gamble, the track. We were missing four or five-tenths, and then it was all down to the track. There was certainly much more potential in the car to get the lap earlier, but we just didn’t get the lap when we could have.”

While Sergio Perez is on the back foot heading into the Canadian GP, he has acknowledged the fact that he hasn’t been able to bring his A-game to the recent Grand Prix events. He regrets how things have panned out for him in the RB19, and while talking about it, he said, “I’m definitely not feeling great; I’m not going through a great moment.”

But we’ve come back before and the race is a new opportunity to, hopefully, get back to very strong points. What happened in qualifying was just a mess really. Being half a lap earlier here and there, the picture would have looked a lot different and we would have had a good day. We just have to keep our heads down and it will come to us. We will try hard to get through the field. It won’t be an easy ask, but we will try everything.”

Sergio Perez being the fighter he is has asked his crew to keep their heads up as the points will be on the line today. He ardently feels he has got everything he could ask for in the form of the RB19 and will try his best to score as many points as possible during the Canadian GP. Considering everything, Can you see the Mexican starlet standing on the podium at the end of the race?
