The 2024 Formula One season has started with Bahrain pre-season testing and multiple racers have driven their challengers for the first time. Ahead of the event, two-time F1 World Champion Fernando Alonso has suggested a few radical changes to the testing. Alonso, who has experienced the benefit of unlimited testing in his prime years, wants F1 to allow teams to test their cars more.

But Red Bull’s star Mexican driver Sergio Perez isn’t sold on the proposal. He argued that the current race calendar is brutal and too long with 24 races. The 34-year-old then went on to assert that the break is essential for managing the energy levels of the athletes. Perez reckons the break helps the drivers to bring good results to the team.

It’s too many. We know that it’s too many races. It’s going to be a brutal calendar for all of us involved in the sport. That’s why it’s important that we are able to manage our energy levels as best as possible...I think 20 races would be great, keeping up the quality instead of the quantity. But that’s not for me to decide.
Perez said, as reported by RaceFans

Perez said this year is very brutal as there are 24 races in this season. The Mexican driver asserted his points by saying that the sport should focus on quality rather than quantity of races. The 34-year-old also said that the break should be there to manage energy levels as the calendar is already brutal.
