Sergio Perez, the Red Bull Formula 1 driver, has been on a torrid run at the pinnacle of motor racing. Perez has got easily outperformed by Max Verstappen in the last few races, and amidst his poor run, it has come out that the Mexican has run out of spare parts for the remainder of the 2023 F1 season.
Sergio Perez started the ongoing campaign in tremendous form, but as the season has rolled on, his form has declined massively. Moreover, he has put his RB19 into the barriers several times, and Friday’s FP1 incident was another that he put into that list. While Perez is desperately trying to end his baffling run, it has been reported that Red Bull will not share Max Verstappen’s spare parts.
The reigning World Champion has been in prime form in the 2023 season and has hardly put a foot wrong. He has put in sensational performances behind the wheel of the RB19 and is comfortably leading the Drivers Championship. While Verstappen has been busy steamrolling its competition, Perez has found it extremely difficult to keep his car on track.
All the errors that the 34-year-old has committed so far have emptied his stock of spare parts for the season, and Red Bull has decided against switching Perez’s car to the old spec, for which parts are available. The Mexican starlet is in a tricky situation and can’t afford to put his car into the barriers anymore.
Sergio Perez needs to get his act together at Red Bull
Sergio Perez is in the best car during the ongoing Formula 1 campaign, but despite this, he hasn’t been able to capitalize on his opportunities. After 11 rounds, Max Verstappen has put significant distance between himself and Perez, and some of it has been down to the lackluster performances of his teammate.
Perez came into the 2023 campaign with the hope of challenging for the World Championship, but his challenge has already run out of steam. He has so far managed only 156 points in comparison to Verstappen’s 255. While he is contracted to Red Bull until the end of the 2024 season, there are no guarantees whether he will still be with the team next year.
If Sergio Perez wants to make sure that he has a seat at Red Bull next year as well, he would need to start putting in consistent performances and also try keeping his car out of any unnecessary trouble. Otherwise, he could also get shown the exit door just like De Vries was shown at the AlphaTauri F1 team.
