Sergio Perez had high hopes for the 2023 season at the beginning of the year. After winning two races out of the first four, the Mexican claimed he would do his best to challenge for the title in 2023. This claim did not come to fruition, as Perez’s title hopes crashed after a huge lapse in form in the middle of the season.

Now, with second place in the Championship secured, Perez can rest easy for the final race in Abu Dhabi. However, with another year in his Red Bull contract, Perez claims his main goal for 2024 will be to win the World Championship which he could not do this year. The six-time Grand Prix winner said he will begin preparing for his title challenge in the winter break after Abu Dhabi.

I've already got second place [in the World Championships] [this year]. My main interest is to get one place better and I'm aware of the challenge that that represents. We have to use the winter break to start the season with a good feeling and maintain this level throughout the entire season.

Sergio Perez’s comparison to Max Verstappen is not ideal for a World Championship aspirant, as the gap to his teammate is larger than the gap to Nyck De Vries with zero points. Verstappen won a whopping 18 times in 2023, with over double the points that Perez could manage.

Sergio Perez reveals methods he used to recover form

Sergio Perez suffered a huge loss of form gradually into the second half of the 2023 season. Perez failed to get into Q3 on several occasions and rarely managed to get onto the podium. The Mexican fell far behind his teammate in the standings and his Championship hopes were tattered.

Perez started facing rumors of Daniel Ricciardo replacing him at the Milton Keyes outfit, especially after further misfortune in Qatar. Perez only managed 10th in the sprint and finished over a minute behind Verstappen in the full race. The 2023 runner-up revealed that the team looked over his performance and he spent over a week at the factory to regain his composure.

I had a really deep one in Qatar, where I went back to the factory for like a week and went through it very much in detail with all the engineers. We understood a lot of things that we were doing to compensate for the weaknesses that we had, and we were probably taking the wrong approach with the car and trying to compensate for it too much with the car setup.
Sergio Perez said, as reported by planetf1.com

Perez did not get the chance to display his performance at his home GP in Mexico after crashing out but did manage good results in the races since. In the most recent weekend at Las Vegas, Perez recovered from 11th on the grid to finish on the podium, securing second place in the Championship with it.
