Formula 1 heads to Mexico this weekend, the home race for Sergio Perez. The 33-year-old enjoys an enormous fanbase in the country who come to cheer for him every season. However, Checo has urged fans to not only support him at this year’s Mexican GP but to rally behind the entire Red Bull Racing team.
The 33-year-old mentioned that he looks forward to racing at his home track every season. Sergio Perez reckoned that the Mexican GP is the most important race for him in the entire F1 calendar. Checo pointed out that he had already received massive support at the US GP last weekend.
Mexico is the most important weekend of the season for me … I can’t wait any longer for my career at home! The support in Austin was crazy, so I can’t imagine what Mexico will be like … surely very special
Sergio Perez told SoyMotor
However, Perez reckoned that he wants all fans to come and support Red Bull this weekend and not just him alone. This comes at a time when Max Verstappen has faced numerous threats on social media ahead of the Mexican GP. So much so, that the Dutch driver will be accompanied by bodyguards throughout the weekend.
I want Mexico to come out to support the entire Red Bull team, not just me"
Red Bull wary of security risks ahead of Mexican GP
Despite having the local hero in its line-up, Red Bull is expected to face backlash from fans in Mexico City. Team Principal Christian Horner has already stated that the Austrian team expects a negative reception at the track. Moreover, Red Bull consultant Dr. Helmut Marko is not a popular face in the country after his alleged xenophobic comments towards Sergio Perez.
Red Bull is set to have a difficult weekend as fans allege that the Austrian team favored Max Verstappen over Sergio Perez. However, the Milton Keynes-based team has made it clear that the Mexican driver has not lived up to expectations this season. Nevertheless, Verstappen remains unconcerned regarding the situation.

Max Verstappen and Red Bull would be looking to bag another successful result this weekend. The three-time world champion has continued his dominant run this year with stellar performances in Qatar and the US GP. However, it remains to be seen if Perez could challenge the Dutch driver at his home race this weekend.
