Navigating a challenging season at Red Bull Racing, Sergio Perez consistently battles unfavorable qualifiers, showcasing his resilience in recovery with mixed results. Perez has secured a notable second spot in the championship with a 40-point lead over Fernando Alonso. Perez’s grip on his position remains, however, still is tentative. Notably, Helmut Marko‘s recent comments underline the uncertainty surrounding Perez’s future at Red Bull Racing.
Helmut Marko told Kleine Zeitung that in Formula 1, nothing can be considered 100 percent certain as there’s no absolute certainty in this sport. He noted that there are always performance-related matters that require discussions. The Austrian explained that the team will assess the situation and deliberate on the way forward during the Zandvoort race. This will lead to a clearer understanding of the matter.
“Nothing is 100 per cent certain in Formula 1, there simply is no such thing. There are always performance-related situations somewhere that need to be talked about. We’ll take a look at it and discuss how to proceed in Zandvoort, then we’ll know more,” Helmut Marko said, according to Racingnews.365.
Daniel Ricciardo’s comeback raises doubts about Sergio Perez’s Red Bull future
Two races ahead of the summer break, Daniel Ricciardo rejoined AlphaTauri, making a notable comeback. His performance in recent races has garnered praise, fueling speculations about him potentially succeeding Sergio Perez this season. During the summer hiatus, Helmut Marko, the pivotal figure overseeing seat assignments at Red Bull and AlphaTauri, had a dinner meeting with Ricciardo.
Helmut Marko stated that it appeared reasonable, given Daniel’s presence in Graz. He commented that Daniel possesses an exceedingly positive demeanor, an accomplished career, and extensive expertise. Marko mentioned that Daniel’s enthusiasm and vigor had significantly invigorated AlphaTauri. The Austrian described it as a genuine boost of motivation.
“That seemed logical when he is in Graz. Daniel, has a very positive personality, a successful career and incredible experience. His drive and power have provided a real jolt to AlphaTauri. It was a real motivational injection,” Helmut Marko continued.
Earlier, both Marko and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner affirmed Perez’s contractual stability within the team. Perez, the Mexican driver, maintains an active agreement until the culmination of 2024. In a recent development, Horner reaffirmed Perez’s role with the team for the upcoming year. He also indicated the possibility of extending his tenure beyond 2024, contingent upon sustained performance excellence.
