Fred Vasseur, the Ferrari Team Principal, has made it known that Ferrari is building itself step by step in F1, and bringing the lights of Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton to the team will not help. He has indicated that the Italian team is following a certain plan and will stick to it.

Fred Vasseur has taken on the mantle of leading Ferrari this year only and has already come under a bit of pressure for the lackluster performance output of the SF-23. Vassuer, until the end of 2022, was at Alfa Romeo, and on the back of his solid leadership there, he was entrusted with leading Ferrari ahead of this year’s campaign.

However, things haven’t panned out well for the team so far, and Vasseur, while talking about everything bringing certain drivers on the team, said,There are a lot of big names in F1. I often get asked about Max, Lewis, good engineers, etc. Of course, you would want that, but in the end, it doesn’t work that way.”

You have to understand the weaknesses and improve step by step from there. I wonder if big names who have not been involved in the F1 project from the start… will add something? If they join the team and then want to change everything, then you’re talking about two to three years. That would be too long,” he added.

While Fred Vasseur has indicated that Ferrari does not see itself going after the big names in F1, he has also made it known that he has his utmost trust in the people who have been working at Ferrari. While applauding the Maranello-based team’s personnel, he said, “I think we have a good structure.”

It is certainly important that we strengthen things again and we are working on that, but it is not just about big names. The big teams have over 1000 people working. I believe that the strength of a group outweighs the strength of an individual.” With his remarks, the 55-year-old has shown a lot of confidence in the abilities of his team.

The ongoing F1 campaign is nine rounds down, and Ferrari is currently fourth in the Constructors Championship with a bit of catching up to get in close range of Aston Martin and Mercedes. Ferrari is the only team that has the pace to match Red Bull, at least in qualifying, and they need to step up their game to be contenders once again.
