Two of the most popular sports in the United Kingdom happen to be Football and Formula 1. The UK’s native football championship, the Premier league has been one of the most popular leagues in the world with a huge following. One of the biggest clubs in the league, Chelsea F.C. have been up for sale ever since its owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government in light of of the Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. The local, Sir Lewis Hamilton along with the tennis ace, Serena Williams has emerged as the top favourites to be the new owners.
Both athlete’s, Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams sit at the pinnacle of their respective sports. The duo have been known to be close friends for a long time and now enter the opportunity of being business partners together. Lewis Hamilton, a fanboy of Arsenal F.C. has been known to be an active investor in diverse companies. The 23 time Grand Slam winner, Serena Williams under the Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm has also been known to invest in opportunities such as Opensponsorship, a sports technology startup.

The seven time Formula 1 world champion, Lewis Hamilton along with the former women’s world tennis number 1, Serena Williams are speculated to have each bid £10million in the bid. The duo are set to form part of Sir Martin Broughton’s consortium. The Brit, Lewis Hamilton and the American, Serena Williams are said to be the highest-profile members of any of the three remaining consortia.
The pair are set to combine a total of £20 million if the former chairman of Liverpool F.C. and British Airways, Sir Martin Broughton’s bid is successful. Lewis Hamilton is rumoured to likely play a formal role in Chelsea F.C. future efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion if the bid is successful.
The English club has been on sale ever since the end of February and have been unable to perform day to day transactions at the club. Every transaction from selling tickets to the club’s retail stores have been halted. Chelsea F.C. has also seen loss of sponsorship deals from firms like Hyundai and telecom firm, Three. It remains unknown who places the highest bid and is set to be the next owner of the club, but the potential owner list is now joined by Sir Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams.
