Sergio Perez has further indicated that he strongly believes the situation could have been handled better and should not have escalated the way it has over the last few days.

Max Verstappen was asked to give up his sixth place in favor of Perez during the dying stages of the Sao Paulo GP. However, the Dutchman had other plans and preferred finishing ahead of his teammate.

His bemusing antics got to the Mexican and while fuming on the team radio after the race, Perez added, “Shows who he really is.”

Since the unfortunate incident, the Milton-Keynes-based team has been doing its best to put out the fire around the scandal and even released a public statement.

Via the statement, the 2022 Champions have made a desperate attempt, to cool things down so that the team does not have to deal with any unnecessary controversy during the winter break.

While Red Bull on its part has done what it could have done, both its drivers during the ongoing Abu Dhabi weekend have also indicated that everything is good within the camp. Moreover, Sergio Perez has even gone on to say that he regrets his comments.

While talking about the same, Perez added, “Obviously F1, it’s a very emotional sport.”

And there is no other sport where you can speak yourself live, and it’s only in F1 this happens. So there’s a lot of emotions going on in a lot of things to say.

I obviously regret a lot of things I said after the race because I am back with Max in the relationship we use.”

He further adds, “Everyone was put in a very difficult situation there, within Max, within the team, myself.”

“I think we could have handled the situation better. We will obviously learn from it and do things differently in the future.”

And that’s the way you should be – every team around the paddock is learning.

Luckily it was just the last 100 meters of the lap I found out he wouldn’t give me back the position. It obviously was a bad feeling.”

But I think I’m able to put all of this behind us. My priority is to have a good environment to work in and to be able to trust my team-mate, to trust my team. And that’s my priority.

While Sergio Perez has put the incident behind him, the same is not the case for Verstappen. His family received a lot of abuse after the Sao Paulo GP and he is not at all pleased about it.

The Dutchman while revealing the situation added, “When your own sister writes [to] you and it’s getting way too much and you have to do something about it, I think that says enough. Yes, it does get to me because you cannot attack my family.”

You don’t even know the real story, so you don’t need to write a story. I’m just a little fed up with all this b******* just going around all the time.

As soon as something negative [happens] it needs to be highlighted and it’s pretty sickening, to be honest, being part of all that.

Max Verstappen is distraught with how his family has been treated after the Sao Paulo GP and considering everything, the 25-year-old is absolutely correct in speaking up as such things should not happen.

People can’t really abuse a driver’s family for something that happened during a Grand Prix. Everyone has their own opinions about the situation and looking at the abuse, in what light do you see the whole scenario?
