“Sometimes people say different things” : Lewis Hamilton accuses competitors of being two-faced over FIA porpoising issue

After various viewpoints on the FIA’s technological guideline intended to address porpoising concerns were presented, 7-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton suggested that his F1 opponents were being two-faced.
8-time consecutive constructors’ championship winner Mercedes has been hit harder than most by the car’s extreme bouncing this season, which has been caused by both aerodynamic porpoising and mechanical vibrations caused by chassis rigidity.

After a difficult afternoon in Baku last weekend, Hamilton was scarcely capable of climbing out of his W13, but he’s hardly the only driver to grumble, with McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo and AlphaTauri’s Pierre Gasly leading the charge for reform.

A technological regulation issued by the sport’s regulatory body before the Canadian Grand Prix drew varied response from people on and off the grid. After title contender Max Verstappen slammed the important shift as “not correct,” Hamilton hinted that the attitude had shifted in front of the cameras.
“It is always interesting seeing people’s perspectives and opinions in different lights,” said Hamilton. Obviously, in front of you it’s one thing and another in the background, sometimes people say different things. Ultimately, I think safety is the most important thing,” said Hamilton.
“There’s at least one driver in every team who has spoken on it and I don’t think it’s going to change a huge amount. But there is a lot of work to be done and it’s positive that the FIA are working towards improving it. We have this car for the next few years. So it’s not about coping with the bouncing for the next four years, it’s about completely getting rid of it and fixing it so that the future drivers, all of us, don’t have back problems moving forwards,” added the Mercedes driver.
