British driver Lewis Hamilton suffered a mediocre F1 season this time around. Hamilton has been working hard as he aims to improve his performance for next season. Amidst this, Tennis star Maria Sharapova has praised the seven-time champion for dealing with a jam-packed schedule.
The Russian tennis star talked about the difference in the schedules of F1 as well as tennis. Sharapova exclaimed how she was present at the Miami GP and saw the sponsor responsibilities for Hamilton during the races. Subsequently, the 36-year-old speculated about how the Briton had enough energy to wake up and do his job after being so drained of energy.
At Formula 1, I mean, what Lewis is doing ahead of a race. I actually was in Miami and I saw some of his sponsor responsibilities and I just couldn’t believe the amount of events and interviews. And then how do you wake up and want to do your job? Beat someone when so much of your energy is drained?Sharapova said on the Armchair Expert podcast (H&T: planetf1.com).
Additionally, Sharapova proclaimed that it shows how when there is an individual star that wins over and over it gets even more special. As Hamilton and other F1 driver needs to perform at every race while dealing with such high workloads and commitments outside the track as well.
I think it just shows you when there is that individual and that star that wins over and over, how special it is because of everything else that they’ve also had to be responsible for.
Lewis Hamilton has been winless for the past two seasons
Although the Briton is heavily lauded all over the grid, the driver hasn’t been able to play the British national anthem due to his victory in the past two seasons. The last race win for Hamilton was way back in Saudi Arabia in 2021 and hasn’t won ever since then. This winless form has been noticed by everyone on the grid and garnered reactions towards it.
The team has showcased faith in the development of the W15 including Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes aims at finally scoring a Grand Prix victory after the team won a race in the last season just once with George Russell. Additionally, the season of 2023 marked the first time since 1952 that Formula 1 did not play the British National Anthem ‘God Save the Queen or King’ throughout the entire season.
Despite the winless form from the team, Mercedes showcased excellent improvement in terms of pace down the season. The team put forth some promising results in the last few races of the season except the ultimate race at Abu Dhabi where the team failed to perform at its best. Finally, Mercedes finished P2 in the constructor’s championship with a fierce battle with Ferrari towards the end.
