“That sapped a lot of confidence,” George Russell recoups his ‘lost confidence’ with a decent performance at the US GP qualifying

George Russell has had a very strong year in a car that isn’t quite possible of doing it so. Russell didn’t quite have his top performance in the last few races with issues in the strategy but other than that he has been providing the result throughout. Russell started his US GP to get back his lost performance, but the start didn’t quite help him.

Russell almost crashed out on his run in the practice and eventually lost all his confidence over the course of the sessions. But he had a very decent Qualifying finishing P6 behind his teammate Lewis Hamilton. Though the race pace for the Mercedes has been very good, it is much to see what Russell will pull off in a car he now isn’t really comfortable with.

Russell opens up to his discomfort, “I’ve been off the pace this weekend. The start of FP1 was good, but then I had big sideways moment and almost crashed in practice. And that sort of sapped a lot of my confidence across all the practice sessions,” said Russell as per Autosport.

George Russell on his comfort throughout the season

George Russell has been the ‘Mr. Consistency’ with his fantastic top-five finishes in almost every race. With a car he has been provided with, Russell is probably the fifth or sixth fastest driver on the grid but still stands strong in the fourth position of the championship table. His confidence has been great throughout the season.

“Especially with the porpoising, with the stiffness of these cars – it’s a bit of a diva at the best of times. So you kind of always want to have a clean weekend, you never want to put the car in the wall or anything,” said Russell.

But anyhow a strong Quali did give him the confidence to get along with the US GP, “But I think once the helmet’s on in qualifying, you always have a slightly different mindset. And yeah, fortunately, the car sort of fell back to normal ways in Quali,” concluded Russell.

George Russell is preparing himself for a fight for the second position in the championship. He has been ahead of Carlos Sainz in his Ferrari and has been extremely lucky with all his confidence to even use all the opportunities, Russell could very much fight for the championship if he gets a car too.
