“That’s news to me,” Christian Horner denies speculations around Red Bull signing Fernando Alonso
Christian Horner and Fernando Alonso
The season of transfer rumours regarding the drivers’ future signing is starting to build up earlier than anticipated. And while we’ve heard some crazy theories, one of the most absurd and unique ones was given by the former world champion with Brawn GP, Jenson Button.
As part of the Sky Sports F1 commentary team, Button suggested during the FP3 of the Miami GP that Fernando Alonso, currently driving for Alpine maybe end up with Red Bull as the Spaniard is in talks with the team. The commentary team also discussed a potential move of Oscar Piastri to Red Bull but concluded that the Australian’s career may receive damage from the ever so aggressive and the reigning world champion Max Verstappen.
But Christian Horner straight up denied any link with Alonso. When presented with the thought, the boss said, “That’s news to me. We’re very happy with the drivers that we’ve got. Fernando is a great driver and it is fantastic that he is still in Formula 1, giving the +40 year olds something to aspire to, but he doesn’t fit our plans.”

Who will partner with Christian Horner and Max Verstappen in 2023?

Max Verstappen has proved his mettle in the sport by winning the 2021 championship after an intense and prolonged battle with Mercedes driver and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. This also earned the Dutch driver the longest contract ever in the sport’s history, lasting until the end of the 2028 season.
Currently, Max Verstappen’steammate Sergio Perez appears to be a strong contender for the team’s seat, but no one can deny that the team will consider other applicants as well, including AlphaTauri driver Pierre Gasly, which Helmut Marko believes has to be promoted in case the Austrian constructor ever want the French to drive for them.
With Sergio Perez acting as a perfect teammate in 2021, his contributions are often overlooked. The Mexican has confessed that he aims for the championship and won’t budge until he is in the fight for the championship. So, with this season still starting to heat up, it won’t be at least until a few months that the team will take a call.
