Max Verstappen won the Italian GP and for the first time climbed on the podium at Monza. Max started from the Seventh position and still managed a win, he won a race from the position lower than fifth for the third time this season. Verstappen was on the podium places by the end of the first lap and aimed for a win after a few more laps. This triggered the Tifosi to present at the grandstand to support their team, Ferrari.

Charles Leclerc started on the pole and only managed a P2. This time it was nothing other than the pure pace that he lagged on. With no errors in strategy or troubles with his engine, Charles still lost out to Max. The Dutchman cleared his way to 20 seconds after stretching his tyres on a one-stopper. Leclerc on the other hand was on a two-stop strategy that helped him a bit to catch Max.

Ultimately, the race ended on a Safety car which pinched all the fans and they brought out their feelings by booing Max on the podium. “Well, the atmosphere for me was not amazing. But it is what it is. When it happens, of course, everyone speaks to me about it, with the booing and stuff,” said Max.

“But at the end of the day, I’m here to try and win the race which [I have] done. Some people, of course, they can’t appreciate that, but that’s because they are very passionate fans of a different team. And this is what it is. It won’t spoil my day. I’m just enjoying the moment,” Max concluded.

Charles Leclerc would have loved to be at the top step at Monza for the second time in his career. But he missed out on it after lacking pace and being unlucky with a safety car finish. Leclerc wasn’t really in contention for the win before the safety car, but things could have been interesting if the race was allowed for a restart.

Leclerc shares his disappointment with booing and flares, “I think nobody likes booing and I think it shouldn’t happen. That’s it. But then for the flares, personally I think it’s okay when it’s used maybe before the formation lap or laps to the grid or something. But then sometimes during the race, it can be a bit confusing for us. But it’s the way it is. After the chequered flag, there was a little bit, but to me, this was not too disturbing,” said Charles.

Max Verstappen could go on and win the championship in Singapore if he wins his sixth continuous race there. Charles Leclerc is nowhere on the level of Max Verstappen as of now but 2023 could still make a difference for the Italian team and its driver.
