Daniel Ricciardo was looking all-set to secure good points for the McLaren F1 team in Monza, but calamity struck during the closes stages of the race as his car came to a halt on lap 47 of the Italian Grand Prix.

Daniel Ricciardo has so far not had the best of seasons for the Woking-based McLaren F1 team and after a disappointing end at Monza, has stressed that his MCL-36 just simply came to a halt without giving any prior indication.

Ricciardo while talking about his abrupt end at Monza said, ” [The car] just stalled, there was no advance warning.

Moreover, it is believed that the 33-year-old did his best to get the car to an emergency exit but despite his efforts was not able to do so because his car got stuck in one gear.

Daniel Ricciardo during the closes stages of the race was sure of keeping Pierre Gasly behind him and feels his DNF cost him and his team some valuable points. While talking about the problem with the car Ricciardo said, “But I couldn’t do anything.”

Daniel Ricciardo has had a torrid time behind the wheel of the MCL-36 this year and the late Monza DNF was just another example of it. The Australian was running in P8 when his car came to an abrupt halt.

While Ricciardo did not have the best of outings in Monza, the other McLaren driver, Lando Norris did have a strong outing and was able to finish in P7.

The young Brit scored 6 valuable points for McLaren on a weekend where Alpine ended up out of points with both its car. The bad result of the French outfit has helped the Woking-based team in closing the gap to them in the Constructors Championship.

After 16 rounds, the papaya-colored team has got 107 points on the board whereas Alpine is sitting pretty in P4 with 125 points to its name.

Moreover, there are only 6 races left in the current campaign and it is going to be crucial for McLaren to keep putting in performances consistently if they are to have a chance of finishing ahead of Alpine at the end of the season in Abu Dhabi.
