“I don’t understand why they want to control us,” Valtteri Bottas loud and clear about FIA political statement ban

Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish driver in Formula 1 drives for Alfa Romeo. He is a former Mercedes driver who drove alongside Lewis Hamilton. During the weekend Bottas took part in the Race Of Champions, safe to say he had a comfortable win. He drove for team Finland. The Finn finished the race with a blast and had fun on the track.

The FIA, governing body of Formula 1 banned the drivers from making political statements at the end of 2022. The FIA mentioned they wanted to promote neutrality. This rule change will prevent the drivers from speaking out for their causes and taking a political stance. During the ROC weekend, Valtteri Bottas called out the FIA for wanting to control the drivers.

Though Valtteri Bottas is not a fan of politics, he feels that the other drivers should be allowed to speak their minds. While speaking to EXPRESSEN, the driver was candid. “Personally, I don’t like politics. I like to do what I love, which is racing, but at the same time politics is part of today’s society. I think Formula 1 has done a good job of bringing attention to some of these types of issues and many drivers have raised their voices, including Sebastian.

Valtteri Bottas speaks for his fellow drivers

Previously, on several occasions, Lewis Hamilton made political statements. He stood for LGBTQ and the Black Lives Matter movement after what happened with George Floyd, and bent the knee. He often spoke about how important it is for him to make use of the platform and reach out to the people watching. Sebastian Vettel, another important member of the Formula 1 community was seen wearing tee shirts regarding the causes he was rooting for like “Save the Bees” and used the platform for what he felt was right.

These drivers were seen wearing helmets and tee shirts to show their support for what they believed in. However, things are about to change for the 2023 season as the FIA has made some strict rules.

Valtteri Bottas is the first driver to speak on this topic and has shown his support for his fellow mates. He will be seen driving the number 77 for Alfa Romeo. Following a not-so-good showing in the 2022 season, the Finn will be looking forward to making improvements in his second season. The new season will begin on March first week.
