“The gap to the top has narrowed,” Valtteri Bottas believes Alfa Romeo has the potential to compete with front runners
Valtteri Bottas
Valtteri Bottas ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix has indicated that Alfa Romeo is getting into a position from where it will be able to challenge the front-running teams in F1.
When Valtteri Bottas was at Mercedes, everything was possible because of the superior financial resources and manpower that the German stable has got in comparison to the other teams.
Moreover, despite his switch to Alfa Romeo for 2022, the flying Finn is confident about competing with the big teams. He believes that the budget cap that has been introduced this year is a game changer and can help the Ferrari sister team in making ground to Mercedes, Red Bull, and, Ferrari.
Valtteri Bottas has revealed that with his new employer, the factory is more accessible to him compared to Mercedes, and feels it has become relatively easy to implement new things at a brisk pace.
The 32-year-old, after 13 rounds, has got 46 points to his name and has helped Alfa Romeo in keeping a firm grip over the sixth position in the Constructors Championship.
Valtteri Bottas is extremely pleased with the 2022 budget cap
The 2022 Budget Cap has brought the teams closer in terms of the money that they are allowed to throw around and Bottas further believes that the gap between the top teams and the smaller ones is not that big.
Bottas while discussing the budget cap said, “Absolutely. The midfield is incredibly close. Tighter than ever. And the gap to the top has also narrowed. The three top teams will certainly still benefit a little from their old advantages, but I am hopeful that we will catch up step by step.”
Valtteri Bottas has stressed that the midfield battle is incredibly tight this year and feels that his team is right in the mix with the lights of Alpine and McLaren. Moreover, he further states that the top teams are also not out of the reach of Alfa Romeo as he has indicated that the Hinwii-based team is building steadily.
Alfa Romeo is currently on 51 points in the Constructors Championship and considering how positive Valteri has sounded going into the second leg, it can be assumed that the Ferrari-sister team is going to go all out in pursuit of better results and it will be interesting to see how they will fair in the extremely tight midfield after the end of the summer break.
