“I came here to win, but this year I didn’t (I let Daniel)”: Lando Norris takes a dig at Daniel Ricciardo in a recent poem

Daniel Ricciardo parted ways with Renault at the end of 2021 and joined Mclaren for 2021. The Aussie was partnered up with team sensation Lando Norris. Currently, Norris has a contract with the team till at least 2025. This isn’t the case at the other side of the garage as Ricciardo’s contract is in grave danger.

When Mclaren signed Daniel, it was expected from everyone that he would immediately get in the car and start performing well. Most fans were also of the opinion that Lando Norris would not stand a chance against him. The exact opposite situation occurred when Ricciardo got in the car and got demolished by his British teammate.

Although Lando Norris performed better than Daniel, Monza 2021 is where the Brit must have been very disappointed. After Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton came together, Daniel Ricciardo never looked back and led a McLaren 1-2 and went on to win in Monza with Norris finishing behind and missing out on his first win. This was one of the reasons behind Lando’s jab at Daniel.

“I came here to win, but this year I didn’t (I let Daniel)”, Lando Norris wrote as the first sentence of his poem in the yearbook

Daniel Ricciardo kept his yearbook message short and sweet. “I’ve bloody loved it. This is the stuff I live for and thank you for being there with me from day one,” the Australian added.

Meanwhile, Lando Norris wrote a whole poem where the first sentence was dedicated to Daniel Ricciardo. “I came here to win, but this year I didn’t (I let Daniel)“, is what he said.

This clearly shows that Lando Norris slightly despised Daniel for bringing McLaren their first victory in so many years. I feel that it is Lando’s immaturity to think of it like that. Lando had the chance to score his maiden win in Russia but he binned it because he was too impatient. It will be interesting to see when the young Brit scores his first victory in Formula 1.
