“The team was over-optimistic in Japan,” Fernando Alonso makes a realistic appraisal of Alpine’s situation following a poor start to the US GP

Fernando Alonso had a decent run for the 2022 season after suffering from bad luck. Alpine has been on display with its amazing performance while they compete for the fourth position. The French team has had an amazing past few races with the best one in Japan. But Alonso had his own say on the betterment of Alpine.
USA GP qualifying didn’t go as good as they would have hoped after struggling throughout the week with the car. But the same thing happened at the Qualifying though Alonso managed a P7. Ocon still only managed P18 getting himself out of Q1.
Alonso didn’t really blame the balance of the car but had his eyes on the suspicious floor Ocon came up with. “Japan was P7 or something like that, and here is P9, so it’s not much of a difference. I think the team was over-optimistic in Japan. But I think it’s not that different, even though I think we’ve had more difficulties today, for sure, we found out in FP3,” said Alonso as per ASN Motorsports.

Fernando Alonso opens up on overall performance by Alpine this season
Fernando Alonso compared the overall season of Alpine to be a very decent season with the performance of the car. He had a car capable of performing much more than the team could even take out of it. He has also had bad luck throughout the season with the engines and the DNFs.
“I think in Japan the car was fast, it was good. But it was good also in Silverstone, it was good in Spa. So I think there are certain tracks with high efficiency that the car was very strong all year long,” understands Alonso.
He compared the season with the car in the US to be the same and not much worse,“So I don’t think that it was just related to the floor, it’s just a characteristic. The car felt good today as well, but obviously not good enough,” concluded Alonso.
Alpine is fighting McLaren for the fourth position in the championship. This is very much possible in the US as well with the drivers equally divided into the top 10 and after.
