“The whole country is behind him,” Nyck de Vries applauds ‘dominating’ Max Verstappen
Nyck de Vries would like to rely on his country for support just like how they are with Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen, Nyck de Vries
Nyck de Vries, the former Mercedes reserve driver landed a seat in AlphaTauri for the 2023 season. He will be fighting alongside Yuki Tsunoda, the only Japanese driver on the grid. De Vries finished in points for Williams in his first Formula One race when he substituted for Albon in the 2022 Italian Grand Prix. He was also voted the “Driver of the Day” by the fans. This might have earned him a seat on the grid.
De Vries, the Formula E world champion will be racing as a Formula 1 driver for the first time, in 2023. Though he admits he might feel the pressure of being a rookie, he assures that he had the opportunity to race in different championships. That counts as experience and brings value naturally.
The 28-year-old Dutchman has settled in with the team quickly. He recently sat down with the official Scuderia AlphaTauri team and answered a few questions. De Vries who is aware of the support he needs to perform wants to be able to rely on the Dutch fans just like how they support Max Verstappen. “Obviously, Max has done incredibly well in Formula 1. He’s dominating our sport at the moment and rightfully, the whole country is behind him and the Dutch are very excited about Formula 1. I’m starting my Formula 1 journey,” De Vries applauded his fellow Dutch driver.

“While Max will be continuing to fight for championships, I’ll try to make my mark in my way as well. Apart from that, I don’t know how much the support will be divided between us. Of course, the fans are behind Max and now they have a second Dutch driver to cheer for!” With two Dutch drivers on the grid, their country spectators are in for a treat.
While De Vries aims to finish in points and even try for podium finishes, he hopes the car built by the team will be favourable to them. In 2021 AlphaTauri finished sixth in the constructors. With the new regulations in 2022, they had a difficult time adjusting and finished ninth overall.
However, this will be the second year and they had the time to gather data and analyse the performance of the car. The team just unveiled their new car in New York with the team boss, Franz Tost and their two drivers, Nyck de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda.
