“The year has been extremely frustrating on that side” : Carlos Sainz opens up on bad luck and disappointment in 2022
Carlos Sainz
Carlos Sainz has struggled to recreate his seriously solid results from his rookie season with Ferrari in 2022. Sainz had a stellar season last year, demonstrating his ability to adjust to a new team with very little pre-season testing and continually pushing Charles Leclerc.
“For my part, it has been extremely difficult to get any kind of momentum. Every time I have a good race, the next race, something happens. The year has been extremely frustrating on that side,” said Sainz.
The Spaniard continued, “It’s part of the experience and part of the process. I think we’ve been pretty solid as a team, honestly, this year. There have been some hiccups here and there, but I think the team is doing a very good job.”

Is a title race possible for Carlos Sainz?
The season is still young, granting Sainz 14 more races to make up for a shaky start. Overall, he ought to be happy that he is just 33 points trailing behind his teammate Leclerc in the leaderboard. Sainz’s title race is highly improbable, particularly considering Ferrari’s poor reliability, but the Spaniard must re-establish himself in the team.
Charles Leclerc’s pace this season has cemented him as the undisputed team leader, and while Sainz’s prospect with the Maranello-based racing team is reliable, he could indeed permit himself to become Leclerc’s rear gunner.

Sainz is undeniably open to playing the team sport, but he needs to address the pummeling he is taking from Leclerc in both the qualifying sessions and the main races. The Spaniard will get a chance to redeem himself this weekend in the Canadian Grand Prix.
